Cable Sweater





Materials- 1 x 50g James C. Brett Legacy 100% wool ( or approx 120m DK yarn ) 4mm straight and/or circular needle/s, 2 lengths of waste yarn for holding sleeve stitches, wool needle, 5 x 10mm buttons
Size- to fit 16" Sasha/Gregor
Gauge- 22 sts x 28R = 4"sq
Abbreviations- K- knit, P- purl, L1L- lift the left leg of the stitch 2 rows below the stitch just knitted onto LHN and knit it, L1R- lift the right leg of the stitch 1 row below the next stitch onto LHN and knit it, C4f- slip next 2 stitches onto CN and hold at front, K2, then K2 from CN, C4b- slip next 2 stitches onto CN and hold at back, K2, then K2 from CN, C3fp- slip next 2 stitches onto CN and hold at front, P1, then K2 from CN, C3bk- slip next stitch onto CN and hold at back, K2, then P1 from CN

Begin at neckband and work top-down
Cast/bind on- 42 stitches and work back and forth in rows
Set up R1- K3 ( K2, P2 ) 4 times, K4 ( P2, K2 ) 4 times, K3
Set up R2 and all following WS rows- K3, P and K stitches as they appear to last 3 stitches, K3
Commence cable panel
R1- K3 ( K2, P2 ) 3 times { K2, P2, C4f, P2, K2 } ( P2, K2 ) 3 times, K1, YRN, K2tog
R3- K3 ( K2, P2 ) 3 times { C3fp, C3bk, C3fp, C3bk } ( P2, K2 ) 3 times, K3
R5- K3 ( K2, P2 ) 3 times { P1, C4b, P2, C4b, P1 } ( P2, K2 ) 3 times, K3
R7- K3 ( K2, P2 ) 3 times { C3bk, C3fp, C3bk, C3fp } ( P2, K2 ) 3 times, K3

Commence raglan shaping
R1- K3, K5, L1L, L1R, K4, L1L, L1R, K1, P2 { as R1 } P2, K1, L1L, L1R, K4, L1L, L1R, K5, K3-50 stitches
R2 and all WS rows- K3, P and K stitches as they appear to last 3 stitches, K3
R3- K3, K6, L1L, L1R, K6, L1L, L1R, K2, P2 { as R3 } P2, K2, L1L, L1R, K6, L1L, L1R, K6, K1, YRN, K2tog- 58 stitches
R5- K3, K7, L1L, L1R, K8, L1L, L1R, K3, P2 { as R5 } P2, K3, L1L, L1R, K8, L1L, l1R, K7, K3- 66 stitches

Work another 10 rows in this manner working a buttonhole on R13 ( you have worked a total of 18 rows from 'commence raglan shaping' )- 114 stitches
Divide for sleeves and body
R1- K3, K14, L1L, slip next 22 stitches onto holding thread, L1R, K10, P2 { as R3 } P2, K10, L1L, slip next 22 stitches onto holding thread, L1R, K14, K3- 74 stitches
R2 and all WS rows- K3, P and K stitches as they appear to last 3 stitches, K3, so joining backs and front together
R3- K3, K26, P2 { R5 } P2, K26, K3
R5- K3, K26, P2 { as R7 } P2, K26, K1, YRN, K2tog
R6- as R2
Work another 18 rows, working a buttonhole on R9, so ending on R2 of cable pattern
Work 8 rows as R3 to R2 of neckband working a buttonhole on the first row
Cast/bind off
Sleeves
Slip the stitches of one sleeve onto circular needle/s so that the start and end of the round is under the armhole
R1-26- K, decreasing 1 stitch at each end of rounds 5, 15 and 25- 16 stitches
R27-30- ( K2, P2 ) to end of round
Cast/bind off
Sew in loose ends, sew up the small hole under the arms and sew on buttons
